FAQs

Mid Drive motors provide the best riding experience, and the most available power (torque) at a given wattage rating. They can also be paired with Internally Geared Hubs and Belt Drive systems which allow them to work in conjunction with the gears in the rear wheel, further improving efficiency and overall ride experience. Hub motors are a ton of fun and work great, and are something to consider if budget restraints are a concern.

Torque sensing uses electronics to detect the pressure a rider puts on the pedals. This gives you fully proportional pedal assistance during your ride, for the smoothest and most natural riding experience possible. A Cadence sensor uses magnets to sense pedal movement to engage the motor. This type of system is a bit simpler in construction, and is less precise in the way it engages and provides motor assistance.

While many compaines use Wattage to compare and contrast motor systems, the best spec to look at is Torque. eBike Wattage is a rating of power consumption, not necessarily power output. Torque is a definitive rating of power output. For example, a 750W Hub Motor will output roughly 90Nm of Torque, while a 750W Mid Drive will output roughly 120Nm of Torque. These are both 750W Motor Systems, but the Mid Drive is more mechanically efficient, therefore producing more torque at a given wattage consumption.
