Many of the electric bikes EVELO offers use a carbon belt drive instead of a conventional bicycle chain. This belt drive can last eight-to-ten times longer than a chain, is easier to maintain, and a lot less messy.
In this video, Alex describes some of the benefits of a carbon belt drive on an electric bike. We’ve transcribed the video so you can watch it or follow along in this text.
Hey, folks. Alex here at EVELO Electric Bicycles. We’re here at our Seattle location. I just wanted to take a couple of minutes and show you guys the Gates belt drive system on our Quest Max model.
Always happy to help, Alex is at EVELO HQ in Seattle.
Take a look at this belt here, and you can see how super clean it is. This is actually one of our demo bikes at the Seattle shop.
You don’t have to oil a belt drive, so it can be much cleaner and easier than a conventional bike chain.
We’ve got about, just coming up on 50 miles on this bike, and you can see that there’s really just no sign of any wear or damage on this belt. Even 50 miles on a bike chain you’re going to be looking pretty clean, but the really important thing to keep in mind is that this is rated at 10,000 miles before it needs to be replaced, which is just absolutely phenomenal. A standard bike chain should be replaced every thousand or 1,200 miles or so.
This really requires no lubrication. Playing into that maintenance-free aspect of something that we really try to focus on for all of our bicycles. This is a really nice feature to have.
Using the electric bike’s built-in throttle, Alex demonstrations how smoothly the belt drive runs.
I’m just using the throttle here, and you can see that belt in action.
